What better renting means for you
Your needs are personal, your information matters and financial options deserve a proper explanation.
Renting should reflect your life
The way you live, move and manage money is personal. We recognise that your circumstances, needs and financial priorities may differ from someone else’s.
Your information deserves proper protection
When you share personal or financial information, we handle it through secure digital processes — with care and in line with GDPR, protecting your privacy throughout the process.
Different ways to handle your deposit
Cash deposits, deposit accounts and paid guarantees work differently. We help you understand what each option means, what it may cost and what remains your responsibility.
Keyhole products, explained
Explore our products, learn how each one works and find answers relevant to your tenancy — with availability depending on your country and landlord.

Guarantee
Moving can come with a lot of upfront costs.
A deposit guarantee is a paid alternative to the full upfront cash deposit. When your landlord offers it and your application is approved, it can give you more flexibility at move-in.
AT MOVE-IN
You do not pay the full deposit in cash. Instead, Keyhole provides your landlord with the agreed deposit guarantee, and you pay for keeping that guarantee in place.
WHAT ARE YOU PAYING FOR?
You are paying for the guarantee to remain in place as security for your landlord. The money is not saved and is not returned to you like the unused part of a cash deposit.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MOVE OUT?
You are still responsible for any valid costs in your move-out settlement. Your payments for the guarantee do not cover those costs. If the guarantee is used to pay those costs to your landlord, you must repay the amount to Keyhole.
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
A deposit guarantee can leave more of your money available for moving and other priorities — giving you more room at move-in.

Secure
Know where your cash deposit is and why it is being held.
Paying a cash deposit means setting aside a large amount of money for your tenancy, and you should know where it is and why it is being held. With Secure, the full amount is held in a separate account connected to your tenancy, while Keyhole manages the process digitally from move-in to move-out.
AT MOVE-IN
When your landlord offers Secure, you pay the agreed cash deposit into the deposit account. Once the payment has been received, it remains there as security under the terms of your tenancy.
WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR MONEY?
Your deposit remains separate from your landlord’s own funds. Neither you nor your landlord can use it freely while it remains in the account.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MOVE OUT?
Your landlord prepares the move-out settlement. The deposit is distributed as you both agree, or through the applicable process if you disagree. Any amount left after valid costs have been paid is returned to you.
IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Secure can give you more peace of mind and confidence in how your cash deposit is handled throughout your tenancy — from payment to final settlement.

Common questions
Find answers about how your information is handled, who makes the final rental decision and the deposit options that may become available in Germany.
A rental application can involve sensitive personal and financial information. With Keyhole, the information requested for your application is uploaded to a secure, access-controlled place instead of being sent back and forth through ordinary email.
We handle your information with care and in line with GDPR, with defined rules for how long it is kept — protecting your privacy throughout the process.
No. Your landlord or rental company decides whether you are offered the home.
Keyhole supports the process by collecting and verifying the information needed for the relevant step. If a separate Keyhole product requires approval, that is a different decision. Completing the onboarding process does not guarantee that you will receive the home or be approved for another product.
Secure and Guarantee are two different ways of providing financial security around a tenancy.
With Secure, you pay the full cash deposit into a separate account connected to your tenancy. The money remains there as security and is handled through a digital process from payment to final settlement.
Where it is offered and your application is approved, Guarantee is a paid alternative to paying the full cash deposit upfront. Your payments are not savings and are not returned to you. You remain responsible for valid costs, and if the guarantee is used to pay your landlord, you must repay that amount to Keyhole.
You cannot choose either product on your own. It must be offered by your landlord through Keyhole.
Secure and Guarantee are not currently available through Keyhole in Germany.
If one becomes available for your tenancy, it must be offered by your landlord through Keyhole. Guarantee will also require your application to be approved.
If you are interested, you can ask us to get in touch. We will speak with you first and, with your permission, explain the future options to your landlord.
