1. Start with the invitation from your landlord

To apply for a Keyhole Guarantee, you must use the invitation link you received from your landlord. The invitation connects your application to the correct tenancy.

Do not create an account directly through the app or website. Start by clicking the invitation link from your landlord.

Once you have opened the invitation, follow the steps to complete your application. You may be asked to download the Keyhole app as part of the process.

You will need:

  • A credit card
  • A passport or other valid identification
  • BankID, if required for your identification

Create your account by filling in your name and the email address you received the invitation on. Choose a password yourself.
Check "I accept the terms and conditions" and press "Create account."

2. Verify your identity

Keyhole follows strict requirements from the Financial Supervisory Authority, and therefore we need to confirm who you are. Complete your profile and proceed in the app.

After you have created an account, you will receive a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to continue.

Next, you will need to verify your phone number. You will receive an SMS with a code. If you do not receive the SMS, you can contact support for assistance.

3. Scan your ID and log in with BankID

Please have your ID document ready and click on "Scan your ID." You will need to scan your ID or take a picture of it.

Valid ID documents:

  • Passport
  • ID card

Make sure the entire ID is visible, the picture is clear, and there is enough light.

Afterward, you will need to log in with BankID. Please note that your birth number must match the one the landlord has registered. Contact Keyhole Support if you are unable to use BankID.

Keyhole uses a third-party service to validate your identity, ensuring secure handling of personal information.

4. Income check

To assess your application for a deposit guarantee, Keyhole analyzes your bank transactions to get an overview of your financial situation and ensure that you can meet your obligations as a tenant. (The landlord will not have any insights to this)

You will need to log in with BankID to complete this step.

If the information is incorrect, you can correct it, provide an explanation in the comment field, and possibly upload relevant documentation. This will help speed up the processing of your application.

5. Payment and terms

Approve the credit check, enter your payment card details, and carefully review the terms and conditions.

Finally, you will receive a summary of what the guarantee will cost you per month.

Manual review

In some cases, we need to manually double-check your identity or payment records, but we always respond within 24 hours (Mon-Fri). In 8 out of 10 cases, you will receive confirmation immediately.

Voila! Now you can save your money in an account and move into your new home.

What is Keyhole Guarantee?

The rental deposit guarantee provided by Keyhole offers the landlord the same level of security as a traditional cash deposit, but for the tenant, it presents a more convenient solution. There’s no need to tie up several months' rent in a deposit. With Keyhole, you make a monthly premium payment for the guarantee as long as you are renting the apartment. Your monthly obligation ends once the lease agreement is terminated, and the landlord notifies Keyhole that the final settlement has been paid and you have moved out.
